The company behind the successful game Cards against humanity filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk’s SpaceX in Texas for alleged illegal intrusion, according to a website created by the companyAccording to the lawsuit, SpaceX has been using the property as if it were its own, clearing vegetation, moving dirt and placing construction equipment. Cards Against Humanity is seeking $15 million in damages.
Cards Against Humanity originally purchased property along the U.S.-Mexico border to prevent it from being used for then-President Donald Trump’s planned wall. The card company raised the money through crowdfunding to secure the land and has owned it ever since.
“Elon Musk’s SpaceX was building something in space nearby and thought he could dump his junk all over our beautiful land without asking,” Cards Against Humanity said in a dedicated website about the lawsuit. “After we caught him, SpaceX gave us a 12-hour ultimatum to accept a very lowball offer for less than half the value of our land. We said, ‘Fuck you, Elon Musk. We’ll see you in court.’”
The website refers to Musk as a “embezzlement of charity funds, conspiracy trafficking eugenicist Male child WHO Trade horses for straws in mid-flight,” with links to each of those infamous stories about the billionaire. It includes the allegations about the alleged trespassing, as well as an explanation of why they believe a lawsuit is necessary.
“Our long-standing reputation as a company that makes outrageous promises and actually delivers on them is at stake!” the company said on its website. “We promised that we would use every legal tool at our disposal to protect this land from abusers like Trump and Musk (who is Spending millions to get Trump elected and He also wants to build the stupid wall.) If we don’t act now, why would anyone trust us again?
The complaint, which is available for reading in full onlineIt even includes before-and-after photos of the property, showing how pristine it looked before it was filled with SpaceX construction materials and heavy equipment. SpaceX did not respond to an email seeking comment on Friday.
Cards Against Humanity says that if the company wins the lawsuit against SpaceX, it will split the money among the people who helped buy the property in 2017 through its crowdfunding campaign. That means everyone who donated could potentially get around $100 if the company wins the full $15 million settlement. Everyone who contributed to the original crowdfunding campaign is encouraged to visit the website elonowesyou100dollars.com and provide your information.
But don’t get your hopes up for a big payday. The disclaimer that appears when you sign up makes this very clear.
“I understand that Elon Musk has a lot more money and lawyers than Cards Against Humanity, and while CAH will do everything they can to get me $100, they will likely only be able to get me $2 or, most likely, nothing,” the website reads.
In fact, he has a lot more money and lawyers. Musk is literally the richest man in the world.
