President Trump fired on Tuesday to the two Democratic members of the Federal Commerce Commission (FTC), establishing a challenge to a precedent of the 1935 Supreme Court that prohibits the dismissal of the FTC commissioners for reasons other than the “good cause.”
The White House Commissioners finished Rebecca Kelly Slaughter and Álvaro Bedoya On Tuesday earlier, the New York Times reported. In a statement, Slaughter called the “illegal” shots.
“Today, the President illegally fired me as my position as Federal Commissioner of Commerce, violating the clear language of a statute and a precedent of the Clara Supreme Court,” said Slaughter. “Why? Because I have a voice. And I’m afraid of what I will tell the American people.”
The FTC, which generally has five members, was established in 1914 and is responsible for enforcing consumer protection and antimonopoly laws. The Trump administration has aggressively challenged the authority of independent regulatory agencies, including the FTC.
