We’ve been hearing about the long road to the third Miles Morales animated film, Beyond the Spider-Versefor a similar time; heck, it was meant to come out earlier this year. But now we know it will take even longer to return to their multiversal network, at least we know who will lead the charge behind the scenes.
Today Sony officially confirmed that Beyond will be directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, two creative stalwarts who have been working on Spider-Verse movies from the beginning. Persichetti co-directed In the Spider-Verse with Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, while Thompson served as production designer on the original film, shaping its now-iconic visual style and rising to co-director Across with Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers.
“Bob and Justin’s fingerprints are woven into the DNA of these films, and their passion for Miles’ journey shines through every frame of their latest adventure,” producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller said in a statement (via Deadline). “There is nothing more rewarding than collaborating with creative partners with bold vision and brilliant execution like Bob and Justin. “We are thrilled to work with them once again to create a beautiful and satisfying conclusion to this story.”
It is a story that has been a long time arriving. First announced in 2021 alongside the sequel’s debut trailer, and originally as Part 2 of Part 1, after reports emerged of horrific working conditions at Acrossas well as other reports alleging prolonged restructuring of work in Beyond So far this year, it seems unlikely that we’ll see the film hit theaters for a few more years. Fingers crossed, Persichetti and Thompson will make the wait worth it.
