Now more than ever, Marvel is walking a tightrope to see if the shotgun approach to its slate of movies and TV shows will reach fans or miss the mark. While fans are often caught wearing rose-colored glasses while remembering the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s numerous narrative and box office triumphs, black panther Actress Lupita Nyong’o revealed that the comic’s top brass were unsure of the film’s chances in its growing cinematic pantheon.

Despite the great success of the Black Panther character in his first appearance in Captain America: Civil WarNyong’o said Marvel was concerned that fans would continue to be receptive to the superhero in his own solo film, a film that would also be the MCU’s first black-led superhero film (not counting Blade).
“There was a lot of fear, definitely on the part of executives…Marvel was shaking a little bit,” Nyong’o said. “We were too because we thought we can only do this once. And we have to do it well.” Fortunately, as Nyong’o pointed out, black panther “It totally broke the myth that Black doesn’t sell” and quickly became one of Marvel’s most successful films.
Although Lupita has not been shy about showing her enthusiasm for joining black pantherof the cast, what prompted her to speak about the film’s legacy at the BFI London Film Festival was seeing a clip of her and T’Challa from the late Chadwick Boseman. According the hollywood reporterWatching the clip left Nyong’o silent, leading her to reveal that she had not seen the film since Boseman’s death in 2020 from colon cancer.
Nyong’o not only starred alongside Boseman as T’Challa’s love interest Nakia, but in real life she also became his close friend. Boseman’s passing prompted director Ryan Coogler to revisit the story of black panther continuation Wakanda forever to pay tribute to Boseman’s passing, allowing moviegoers and Boseman’s co-stars alike to mourn his passing.

“Pain is love and there is no place to express it,” Nyong’o said. I don’t want to [to] Run away from tears or pain. You just live with it. That experience will never be separated from the love that was formed,” Lupita said, after supposedly politely refusing to move on to another black panther shorten.
She continued: “I watch this clip and I’m filled with pain and I don’t know if I’ll ever stop shedding tears over losing my friend. But I think we can see him alive. And that is so wonderful.”
The wild robot It’s already in theaters.
