Sad news arrives on a Friday late for fans of Chucky, his emblematic USA/Syfy series chukyand horror-comedy entertainment with devilish, cackling, knife-wielding dolls: The Don Mancini show has been cancelled. That cliffhanger at the end of season three is starting to look awfully permanent, though Mancini, who first devised Chucky for the 1988 film child’s playhas an important conclusion: “It will be back!”

Talking to io9 before chukyThe last episodes of the third season: what we now know are chukyIn the last episodes, period: Mancini said he was in “the first days of talks” to do another child’s play movie, something fans have been dreaming about since the 2019 reboot, which didn’t involve Mancini or Brad Dourif’s distinctive vocal stylings (sorry, Mark Hamill, but you shouldn’t have done that). Mancini’s last Chucky movie was in 2017 Cult of Chucky; The television show premiered in 2021.
“[A new movie would be an] exciting, exciting company,” Mancini told io9 earlier this year. “I hope we get another season of the show too. I mean, I think we both [the movie and the show] can occur and both can coexist there. My plan is for everything to make sense in terms of continuity and general mythology of the world we are building; “We will not contradict anything.”
When asked if a new movie would continue the plot of the TV show, Mancini said: “Or it could be that, if we have a fourth season, we pick up those story threads. And wherever we end up leaving out season four, the movie could take over. I can’t say much because there’s actually an even more complicated way of working that makes it kind of cool. I know you have to take that with a big grain of salt coming from me. “It’s like I can’t say anything, but it’s really amazing.”
