For Good will give your witches some brand new tunes– Brit Commerce

It was only a month ago that Wicked began to take the world by storm, and not long ago we learned that its second half would now pass Evil: Stop Good. Universal isn’t ready to reveal anything about the sequel, but that hasn’t stopped co-director Cynthia Erivo from hyping up some of the upcoming film’s changes, particularly in the music.

In a recent appearance on Varieties On the Awards Circuit Podcast, Erivo talked about her approach to playing Elphaba, who eventually becomes the famous Wicked Witch. One thing he mentioned was working closely with the play and film’s composer, Stephen Schwartz, to develop a new song for his character. Without giving anything away, he joked, “even the title will move you. I don’t know if you’re ready for it. When we filmed it, the cast and crew were crying. […] “I hope audiences are prepared: it’s a song that speaks to the heart of who Elphaba is.”

You may have forgotten, but Schwartz He said that in 2022 there would be a couple of new songs for evil second half “to fulfill the [storytelling’s] demands.” The musical changes from the first film were mostly about the characters or setting to account for the fact that it was no longer a stage musical, but otherwise those songs were the same. Giving Elphaba and Glinda some new tunes keeps things fresh for fans of the movies and OGs, and makes Evil: forever Feel even more like an event. And it will also make those new songs attractive to sing along to when the movie finally gets its own sing-along version.

But Evil: forever should come out first, and will do so on November 21, 2025. If you were waiting to watch the first movie at home, good news: it’s coming to digital on New Year’s Eve.
