Netflix has begun to slightly lift the lid on Squid Game Season Two: Knowing that millions of fans around the world are dying to know what’s going on with Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae). Like, why is he back in the game that nearly took his life in the first season? You won’t find the answer in the clues so far (the new poster, the video of cast members debunking fan theories), but this new clip, a “special sneak peek” shared as part of Geeked Week, conveys a bit more detail.
There’s not even enough for a breakdown; it’s more images designed to build tension and remind you why you couldn’t get enough of the first season. We get a freaked-out Gi-hun opening the door with a gun in his hand to “greet” a masked visitor (is that you, Front Man?), a countdown clock, a bunch of pink jumpsuits, a fireball, bullets flying, that giant piggy bank full of money, and another look at Gi-hun – this time, back as Player 456, surveying a room full of tracksuit-clad competitors destined for gruesome ends.
The official synopsis is: “Three years after winning the Squid Game, Player 456 gave up on going to the United States and returns with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another game of life or death with new participants gathering to win the 456 billion won prize.”
With director, screenwriter, and producer Hwang Dong-hyuk once again helming the show, the cast includes the returning Lee, as well as Lee Byung-hun (the lead), Wi Ha-jun (the detective), and Gong Yoo (the salesman). New cast members include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.
Squid Game The second season will arrive on Netflix on December 26. A third and final season is also on the way in 2025.
