It’s not a successor to the Switch, but Nintendo has some new hardware to announce: a motion-controlled alarm clock. The device is called Alarm and “responds to your movements,” meaning you can snooze it with a gesture or stop it by getting out of bed. It costs $99.99 and will be available in early 2025, although Nintendo says Switch Online subscribers can buy it early right now.
It appears this is the mysterious Nintendo device that landed at the FCC last month. In addition to the motion features, a big part of the device appears to be its surround sounds, pulled from five different Switch games: Breath of the wild, Pikmin 4, Splatoon 3, Super Mario Odysseyand Ring-shaped adventure. There are 35 audio “scenes” in total, although you can also connect the alarm to your Nintendo Account for more scenes. Animal Crossing: New Horizonsand mario kart 8which will be free updates later.
There are also some sleep tracking features. This is how Nintendo describes them:
You can also check Logs to see how much you move while you sleep, set an hourly chime with your chosen title, and switch between Steady or Gentle modes for your morning alarm. In constant mode, the alarm will gradually become louder the longer you stay in bed, while soft mode offers a more constant intensity level. There’s also a button mode for a more traditional, “press snooze button” touch wake-up experience. You can even use sleepy sounds to relax with relaxing music and sounds at your set bedtime.
