Brown was inspired and immediately began working on his first project, Rawr! A study in sonic skullswhich is the work that continues the choir of dinosaurs. Both projects focus on Corythosaurus, but at different stages of their useful life to investigate how changes in the crest in adults’ maturity affect their sound. However, the biggest difference between the two projects is the way the sound is carried out: the reinvention of the dinosaur vocal box.

The work in the dinosaur choir officially began in 2021, with Brown traveling to Canada, where the Corythosaurus is supposed to live, to update his research. She and Gajowski worked with the paleontologist Thomas Dudgeon, from the University of Toronto and the Royal Ontario Museum, to analyze the most recent CT scans and 3D manufactures. From them, they built a natural replica of the head of an adult chorythosaurus, to its intricate nasal passages.
“I am extremely proud of my nostrils,” Brown jokes. “I learned the segmentation of CT for approximately a year so that it is as precise as possible, taking into account the effects that buried for millions of years would also have had on them.”
With the full skull model, the work began in the vocalizations of dinosaurs themselves. With the vocal box now computationally, he gave Brown much more control to test a new investigation, and perhaps even in conflict without having to rebuild everything from scratch.
“The models are based on a set of mathematical equations that are related to the mechanics of the voice, things such as changes in air pressure and a series of other variables affected over time,” she says. “I found some of these models in literature and put them in code based on the most recent research.”
