Elon Musk does not miss the opportunity to delve into OpenAI, even when the news in question is supposedly favorable to President Trump. Just hours after yesterday’s White House press briefing on Project Stargate concluded, Musk posted on X that they “actually don’t have the money.”
Softbank, OpenAI, Oracle and MGX have committed to “deploy” $100 billion now and $500 billion to the AI data center company over the next four years.
Musk and OpenAI are embroiled in a legal battle that often happens in the public eye, with Musk accusing the maker of ChatGPT of steering AI in dangerous directions, and OpenAI saying its reviews are false and in bad faith. Sam Altman responded to Musk’s accusation on Wednesday morning, but decided to focus on the man himself rather than anything having to do with Stargate. “I truly respect your accomplishments and believe you are the most inspiring entrepreneur of our time,” Altman posted. An attempt at reconciliation? Biting sarcasm dry? Who knows more.
Construction of Project Stargate is “currently underway” in Texas, and the companies involved say they are evaluating other sites across the United States. Arm, Microsoft, Nvidia, Oracle and OpenAI have been named initial technology partners for the project. “The magnitude of this investment, obviously, is enormous. And what I think that says about the likely progress of technology, at least what we all believe, is correspondingly enormous,” Altman said in a fox news interview last night.
